Hobby Paint Mixer
This device mixes small hobby paints quickly and has a ball bearing at the base to not directly spin. The drill is not fastened in place, so it can be used by disconnecting the wire.
The design is based on systems that already exist, however I made improvements where necessary and 3D modeled it to fit parts from my workshop.
Night Vision Goggles Adapter
This piece was commissioned with the problem statement: "find a way to attach these $40,000-night vision goggles to this $5,000 camera because the adapter is too expensive."
The goggles themselves do not have any sturdy areas to fasten parts to, so I created a locking pressure-fit system that won't damage the goggles.
One way valve
The problem here was to attach two 5/8" vinyl tubes together with a one-way valve. Air flowing in the wrong direction pushes the (very light) ball towards the tapered section, blocking airflow. Air flowing in the opposite direction will move the ball away from the taper, hitting a larger cross grid that catches the ball.
The design is based on systems that already exist.
Pop Culture Coasters
These coasters were created using a process where I convert an image into 3D geometry. This is done by:
Selecting an image
Auto-tracing to convert into a vector file
Converting the vector into geometry
Cleaning up issues and making a border
Perfect Tea Scoop
Tea, Earl Grey, Hot.
I determined the ideal volume of loose tea for my favourite tea mug size to be approximately 20cm3.
For the scoop to hold 20cm3, the radius of the scoop was determined to be 2.122cm using the formula for the volume of a hemisphere.
Wet Palette Template
A wet palette is used for painting and consists of parchment paper over a spongy, water-soaked material, all held in an airtight container. This template is sized for the parchment paper to perfectly fit the container.
The parchment paper acts as a deferentially permeable membrane, allowing the water to keep the paints from drying out while not allowing the paint through the membrane.
Starfleet Rank Pips
A rather basic design, but one where the measurements need to be absolutely precise for three reasons:
A 6mm diameter by 2mm high magnet fits in the gap.
The parts are based on a prespecified size.
We don't want to look like fools when making first contact with an alien species.
Raspberry Pi Case
The main challenge in this project was ensuring all the holes matched the connection ports of the raspberry pi. This was achieved by finding a schematic of the pi, then verifying the sizes with digital callipers.
The pi has a somewhat fragile-looking external wired fan, so a force-fit hole was modelled with guards to protect it. Lots of holes were added for airflow.
The following 3D printed and painted projects were not 3D modelled by me. I utilized free or paid licenses to access the 3D object files and then printed, sanded, filled, painted, and finished them, as shown below. Everything apart from modelling the 3D file was completed by me.
